The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) announced that Austin FC II midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga has been named to the Ugandan Men’s National Team roster for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches. Byaruhanga will represent Uganda in a pair of games against Tanzania: first on March 24 in Suez City, Egypt, then on March 28 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

“It’s an honor to be called up to represent my country for these important matches as we work hard to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations,” said Byaruhanga.

Byaruhanga, 21, has made 11 previous international appearances for Uganda, including six (6) in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He began his professional career with Vipers SC in the Uganda Premier League, winning the FUFA Male Player of the Year award – recognizing the country’s top men’s player – in 2021 before moving to Czech club MFK Vyskov in August 2022.

Byaruhanga joined Austin FC II on loan as one of the team’s first-ever player signings on January 5, 2023.

“We’re very happy for Bobosi to continue his involvement with the Ugandan men’s national team,” said Austin FC II Interim Sporting Director Sean Rubio. “We wish him the best of luck during this international window and we’ll be supporting him from Austin.”
