Austin FC continued its AISD en Verde program at Barbara Jordan Elementary on April 25 with a visit from Verde & Black winger CJ Fodrey (who previously visited Padron & St. Elmo Elementary), midfielder Micah Burton and Verdisimo. Fodrey and Burton engaged with Barbara Jordan’s 5th grade class and after-school soccer participants around Literacy advocacy, where they amplified important school values such as teamwork, honesty and dedication. After spending time with Fodrey and Burton, the kids were able to enjoy yummy treats from GoodPop who provided complimentary ice pops during the visit.
“Austin FC’s visit was an inspirational experience for our students. They were able to learn and engage with the two young players in a meaningful and relatable way.” Said Barbara Jordan’s Bilingual Librarian Constanza Serna. “We are so grateful to Austin FC, and everyone who made this such a special day for us.”
AISD en Verde was established to serve Central Texas Title 1 Elementary schools, with a focus on inspiring kids to develop a passion for reading. The program includes books donated through the support of Black Pearl Books to the school library and an opportunity for students to experience an ATXFC match in Q2 Stadium.
