Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that Austin FC Academy midfielder Ervin Torres was selected to compete in the 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate, taking place on Wednesday, July 19 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Torres will compete with the MLS NEXT Western Conference All-Stars against a team of MLS NEXT Eastern Conference All-Stars.
A standout performer in MLS NEXT, Torres has earned six (6) total youth international call-ups: five (5) with the U.S. Men’s Youth National Team (MYNT) at the U-16 and U-15 levels, and one (1) with the Mexican MYNT at the U-16 level. Most recently, he represented the U.S. U-16 MYNT at the International Dream Cup from May 30 to June 4 in Fukushima, Japan.
Torres signed an amateur agreement with Austin FC II on March 24, 2023, allowing him to compete at the MLS NEXT Pro level with the team this season.
“Ervin is a talented young player who has developed significantly during his time with the Austin FC Academy,” said Austin FC Senior VP of Player Personnel Sean Rubio. “We’re happy for him to have been selected to the MLS NEXT All-Star Game and wish him the best of luck as he represents the Club there next month.”
Torres and the 43 other players selected to play in the MLS NEXT All-Star Game were chosen by MLS NEXT personnel following the conclusion of the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs and Showcase. To be eligible for selection, players must have been born between 2005-2007, have competed in the MLS NEXT regular season, and played in at least one of the MLS NEXT premier events this season – MLS NEXT Fest, MLS NEXT Flex, Generation adidas Cup, or the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs and Showcase.
The match will be streamed live from MLS NEXT’s (@mlsnext) TikTok account with multiple access points in the app. Admission to the MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate at the Naval Academy’s Glenn Warner Soccer Facility is free of cost.
