The Football Association of Finland announced today the Finnish men’s national team roster for its upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches, with Austin FC defender Leo Väisänen named to the 26-player list. Väisänen will join Finland for its matches against Denmark on March 23 and Northern Ireland on March 26.

“It’s always an honor to be called up to represent Finland on the international stage,” said Väisänen. “I’m ready to do everything I can to help my country qualify for Euro 2024.”

Väisänen, 25, signed with Austin FC on January 4, 2023. The 6’2” center back has made 23 appearances for the Finnish men’s national team in the past, including playing in seven (7) UEFA Nations League matches, six (6) FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and one (1) match at UEFA Euro 2020.

In his first three (3) appearances for Austin, Väisänen recorded eight (8) interceptions and an assist, playing a key role in the team’s 1-0 shutout win over CF Montréal and 2-1 away win over Real Salt Lake.

“We want to congratulate Leo on his latest involvement with the Finnish men’s national team and wish him the best of luck in the team’s matches later this month,” said Austin FC Interim Sporting Director Sean Rubio.

Väisänen will travel to Europe following Austin FC’s match against Houston Dynamo FC on March 18, and return following Finland’s match against Northern Ireland on March 26.
