Austin FC II won their third straight match, defeating St Louis CITY2 by a scoreline of 1-0. The Verde & Black have now claimed all nine points to begin the month of June.
ATXFC II continued their aggressive play throughout the first 45 minutes. In the 24th minute, Steeve Louis Jean fired a shot from outside the box that rolled just wide of the post for Austin’s first real chance of the match. The Verde & Black finished the first half with 10 shots, compared to CITY2’s single shot.
Austin was able to secure the win in the 69th minute with a set piece that led to CJ Fodrey scoring the game-winning goal for the second consecutive match. Cheick Touré executed a short corner and crossed it into the box, where Kipp Keller headed the ball toward the far post. Sebastien Pineau made contact with the ball, but it hit the post before Fodrey was able to put it in for the lead.
Goalkeeper Damian Las made a crucial save in the 75th minute when CITY2's Jonathan Bell attempted the equalizer, but Las extended high to push the ball over the crossbar. Las earned his third consecutive clean sheet and sixth overall of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season, the most in the league. He made a total of four saves during the match.
