Austin FC II defeated Sporting Kansas City II 2-0 on Sunday night at Children's Mercy Victory Field behind goals from CJ Fodrey and Ervin Torres. The win keeps the Verde & Black firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference.
After an even first half, Austin took the lead just five minutes following the halftime break. For the second consecutive game, Fodrey and Jimmy Farkarlun combined to create a goal, with the latter heading in an excellent cross from the former to tally his team-leading fifth of the season.
The Verde & Black then doubled their advantage in the 74th minute. Austin FC Academy product Ervin Torres picked up a pass from Rubén Bonachera on the left flank before cutting inside on his right foot and picking out the bottom corner. Torres now has three goals on the season, while Bonachera and Farkarlun are tied for the team lead with four assists each.
