After going undefeated with two wins and two draws against the vaunted FC Dallas Academy on October 30, the Austin FC Academy continued to pick up positive results against squads from other Texas clubs. On November 6, all four Austin FC Academy sides earned wins over San Antonio FC Pro Academy teams, and three of the four recorded results against Houston Dynamo FC Academy teams on November 13.
“We identified this cycle of the Academy season as one that would be competitive and challenging, and we were looking forward to it,” said Austin FC Academy Director Tyson Wahl. “Our objective was to have consistent performances across all ages while playing against strong professional Academy opponents. In general, we are pleased with how the teams competed across multiple weeks of high level competition. We showed maturity to maintain our standard.”
Against SAFC, both the Austin FC U13 and U14 teams won 3-1, while the U15s and U17s grabbed respective 3-0 and 2-0 shutout victories. The U17 team followed up that performance with a 3-0 triumph over Houston, with the U15s and U14s each battling to 1-1 draws on their trip east.
Strong performances across three match weekends against other Texas clubs mean that the four Austin FC Academy sides now have a combined record of 24 wins, four draws and only five losses in the 2021-2022 MLS NEXT season thus far. The U17’s record of five wins and one loss sees the team in first place in the MLS NEXT Central (South) Division.
“Once the Fall season comes to a close we will reflect as to how we can continue to improve and take more positive strides in the Spring,” said Wahl. “Our success is not only measured by results, we are committed to being a leader in the community through our local coaching development initiatives and other support provided to the Central Texas community.”
