U.S. Soccer announced that Austin FC Academy midfielder Micah Burton has been called up to the U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team (MYNT) for the Concacaf U-17 Championship, set to take place from Feb. 11-26 in Guatemala. The four (4) teams which reach the tournament’s semifinals will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023.
“Micah continues to excel within the Austin FC Academy and we’re excited for him to have the opportunity to compete alongside the best players from across the continent in his age group,” said Austin FC Academy General Manager Tyson Wahl. “We’re confident competing with our U-17 team and spending time with the Austin FC first team during the 2023 preseason have prepared him well for this moment.”
Burton represented the U.S. U-17 MYNT multiple times in 2022, scoring in matches against Uruguay and Portugal and traveling with the team to compete in the Vaclav Jezek Youth Tournament in the Czech Republic last September. He was called in to the program’s first domestic training camp of 2023 in Florida last month as well.
The U.S. U-17 MYNT will face Barbados (Feb. 11), Trinidad & Tobago (Feb. 13), and Canada (Feb. 15) in the Concacaf U-17 Championship group stage. The top three (3) teams in each group advance to the knockout rounds.
Burton is 1 of 4 players from the Austin FC organization to earn a youth national team call-up so far in 2023, alongside Owen Wolff (U.S. U-20), Ervin Torres (U.S. U-16), and Gavin Wolff (U.S. U-15).
