In its short history, the Austin FC Academy has already begun to prove itself as one of the elite youth soccer academies in North America. Last month, two Austin FC Academy players earned call-ups to U.S. Youth Men’s National Team camps: Micah Burton with the U-17’s, and Ervin Torres with the U-15’s.
As the program continues to grow its roots with a focus on developing young players from Austin and Central Texas, its Homestay program allows for all players within Austin FC Academy - including those from beyond the Austin community - to accelerate development by training and playing at the highest level of competition. The program is currently seeking families to host Austin FC Academy players. These families play an integral role in supporting Austin FC’s player development pathway and the holistic and sporting development of individual players.
During the MLS NEXT season (from August to early December and again from January to June), host families provide transportation for their player, support the player academically, and provide a safe and welcoming home environment. Host families receive a monthly stipend from the Club to cover the cost of food and transportation, and deepen their connection with the Austin FC community and the Club’s family-oriented culture.
Burton is currently a part of the program, staying with the Fournier family who have supported the U-17 midfielder on and off the field as he develops as a soccer player and continues to earn call-ups to the U-17 U.S. YMNT.
