On July 23 at Q2 Stadium, Austin FC hosted an event for Black students aged 12-14 and their parents, aimed at introducing young people to soccer and making the sport more inclusive and accessible. 15 students from African American Youth Harvest Foundation and 10 from Austin Area Urban League visited Q2 Stadium for a tour and cleat-painting session.
During the session, each student received brand new cleats and had the opportunity to customize them using a word that they felt best described them. Those in attendance also learned Austin FC supporters’ group chants, took pictures on the field, and enjoyed a pizza lunch.
In planning the event, Austin FC worked closely with over 30 leaders in the Black community to hear their perspectives while introducing them to soccer.
