Austin FC announced today that the Club has signed winger David RodrÃguez on a Short-Term Agreement from its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Austin FC II. RodrÃguez will be available for selection for Austin’s MLS match against Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday, May 17 at Lumen Field.
RodrÃguez, 21, joined Austin FC II from Atlético San Luis as one of the team’s first-ever player signings in January 2023. RodrÃguez scored in two (2) preseason matches with the Austin FC first team, and has contributed two (2) goals and one (1) assist in nine (9) MLS NEXT Pro appearances with ATXFC II.
Prior to his time in Austin, RodrÃguez made his professional debut at age 16 for North Texas SC where he tallied 19 appearances as the team won the USL League One regular season and playoffs in 2019. RodrÃguez joined San Luis in 2020 and made nine (9) Liga MX appearances with the club.
Per the 2023 MLS Roster Rules and Regulations, a club may sign a player age 25 or younger from its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate to a maximum of four (4) Short-Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (a maximum of 16 total days). An individual player may be included on up to four (4) MLS league season match rosters each season – however, that player may appear in no more than two (2) MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four (4) Short-Term Agreements.
