Austin FC announced today the Club reached an agreement to sign forward Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez. Ocampo-Chávez joins the Verde & Black on a one-year guaranteed deal through the end of the 2023 season, with Club options for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
“Alfonso is an exciting young attacking player who proved his ability at the youth international level,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna. “We wish him a warm welcome to Austin, and hope to help him continue to develop and showcase his talent.”
Ocampo-Chávez, a 20-year-old California native, spent the 2022 season with Seattle Sounders FC’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Tacoma Defiance. He made 23 appearances for Tacoma in 2022, scoring nine (9) goals and tallying four (4) assists. He spent the latter part of the 2021 season on loan from Seattle with FC Pinzgau Saalfelden of the Austrian Regionalliga Salzburg, where he made 13 appearances and scored one (1) goal.
At the youth international level, Ocampo-Chávez represented the United States at the U-14, U-15, and U-17 levels. He competed for the U.S. at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2019, and was a key part of the team’s qualifying campaign as one (1) of two (2) players to appear in all seven (7) of the team’s matches at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship.
Austin originally claimed Ocampo-Chávez off the MLS End-of-Year Waivers list on November 17, meaning Ocampo-Chávez retains his MLS Homegrown designation. Ocampo-Chávez will also occupy a spot on the Club’s Supplemental roster.
