Austin FC announced today the Club reached an agreement to sign free agent goalkeeper Matt Bersano. Bersano joins the Verde & Black on a two-year contract through the end of the 2024 season, with a Club option for the 2025 season.
“Having played at Q2 Stadium as a visitor, I have seen first-hand how incredible the energy and atmosphere are on match days and can’t wait to be a part of it,” said Bersano. “Austin FC is an ambitious club with a bright future, and I’ll do everything in my power both on and off the field to help the Club continue to grow in its third year.”
Bersano played for San Jose Earthquakes from 2017 through 2022, spending three (3) seasons on loan with Reno 1868 FC of the USL Championship in 2017, 2018, and 2019. In total, Bersano kept 20 clean sheets in 57 appearances for Reno as the team qualified for the playoffs in each of his three (3) seasons there.
“Matt adds depth and experience to our goalkeeping corps,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna. “We’re excited to have him in Austin and wish him a warm welcome to our Club and our community.”
Prior to joining San Jose, Bersano spent the 2016 season with Seattle Sounders FC 2 (now Tacoma Defiance), and played collegiately at Oregon State University (2011-2014) and Pennsylvania State University (2015).
