Austin FC announced today the Club reached an agreement to sign defender Hector Jimenez to a new contract. Jimenez rejoins the Verde & Black on a one-year guaranteed deal through the end of the 2023 season with a Club option for the 2024 season.
“I’m very happy to return to Austin FC after so many great moments here over the last two years,” said Jimenez. “I can’t wait to get back out in front of the fans at Q2 Stadium.”
Jimenez first signed with Austin ahead of the Club’s inaugural season and made 39 appearances for the Verde & Black in 2021 and 2022, tallying a goal and five (5) assists. He spent seven (7) years with Columbus Crew and three (3) with LA Galaxy before joining Austin FC, winning MLS Cup twice with LA and once with Columbus.
In total, Jimenez has played 225 MLS matches between the regular season and playoffs, scoring seven (7) goals and recording 30 assists.
“Hector’s quality, experience, and leadership are noticeable both on the pitch and in the locker room,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna. “We are delighted to keep him here in Austin.”
Prior to the start of his professional career, Jimenez played four (4) years of collegiate soccer at the University of California Berkeley.
