Major League Soccer (MLS) today announced Austin FC midfielder and Designated Player Sebastián Driussi as 1 of 26 players selected to the league’s 2022 All-Star roster. Driussi is the first-ever Austin FC player to be named an MLS All-Star. He will compete against the Liga MX All-Star team on Wednesday, August 10 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
“It’s a great honor to be Austin FC’s first MLS All-Star selection,” said Driussi. “I’d like to thank my teammates and coaches. Without them, none of my individual success or our success as a team would be possible. I’m excited to represent Austin in Minnesota next month.”
Since Driussi made his Austin FC debut on August 7, 2021, the Club’s goals-per-match average improved dramatically, rising from 0.81 to 1.61. This season, he ranks second in the league with 11 goals scored, and his 15 total goal contributions are tied for second-most in MLS. The Club is unbeaten (9-3-0) in its last 12 matches in which Driussi has scored.
“We’re very happy for Sebastián and his family. This All-Star selection is a recognition of all their commitment since arriving in Austin last year,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna. “On top of being an excellent addition to the Club on the field, Sebastián is a stellar presence in the locker room. Everyone at Austin FC congratulates him and looks forward to seeing him compete in the All-Star Game.”
Driussi was one 1 of 12 players selected by a combination of fan, media, and player voting. Another 12 were chosen by All-Star Head Coach Adrian Heath of host club Minnesota United FC, and a further two (2) were chosen by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
