Austin FC fought to a 1-1 draw with San Jose Earthquakes in the Club’s final match of the 2023 MLS regular season on Saturday night at PayPal Park.
The first chance fell Austin’s way in the 10th minute when Emiliano Rigoni’s header flashed just wide of the post after a fluid team passing sequence created the opportunity. Cristian Espinoza gave the hosts the lead seven (7) minutes later with a low shot to the near post.
The Verde & Black responded in the 32nd minute through Owen Wolff. The 18-year-old midfielder, who was recently voted to the MLS 22 Under 22 list, scored his second career goal with a terrific looping header, flicking Nick Lima’s cross over San Jose goalkeeper Daniel.
Early in the second half, Brad Stuver made a strong save to deny Earthquakes striker Jeremy Ebobisse from point-blank range. Ebobisse then hit the post moments later. In the closing stages, Stuver made one more good stop to ensure the teams shared the points.
