Austin FC II earned their fourth-straight win, defeating Timbers2 by a scoreline of 4-0 on Sunday. The victory means the Verde and Black have won 12 points of a possible 12 in the month of June.
ATXFC II opened the scoring in the 21st minute of the match. David Rodríguez took on a T2 defender on the right wing, dribbling past him before sending a cross into the box, which was met by the right foot of forward Sebastien Pineau who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Sal Mazzaferro doubled Austin’s lead in the 36th minute, netting his first goal of the season. The chance arose following a cross from an ATXFC II corner, which Joe Hafferty headed into the path of Mazzaferro for the finish.
Pineau capitalized on a scramble around the six yard box in the 59th minute to score his second goal of the night, assisted by Steeve Louis Jean. Pineau pulled the ball back to evade a defender’s approaching slide tackle, before taking a final touch to net his first brace of the season.
Just two minutes later, in the 61st minute, Rodríguez scored his fifth goal of the season. Rodriguez sped past T2 defenders on a counter-attacking dribble. Following a failed clearance from T2 that fell to Rodríguez, he took a touch before hitting the ball on the half-volley, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The 4-0 scoreline marked goalkeeper Damian Las’ fourth-consecutive clean sheet and seventh overall of the MLS NEXT Pro season, the most in the league.
