Austin FC II announced today the team signed Christo Vela to its MLS NEXT Pro roster. Vela joins ATXFC II on loan from Cancún FC of Mexico’s Liga de Expansión MX.
“Joining Austin FC II is an amazing opportunity, and I’m excited to help the team in any way I can as we work together toward our goals this season,” said Vela.
Vela, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder from Tlaquepaque, Mexico, spent time in the youth systems of Liga MX clubs Necaxa and Chivas Guadalajara before signing with Cancún FC in July 2022. Vela went on to score one (1) goal in 14 appearances for Cancún.
“Christo is a promising young player to add to the Austin FC II attack,” said Austin FC Interim Sporting Director Sean Rubio. “We wish him a warm welcome to Austin and look forward to seeing him in MLS NEXT Pro action.”
