Austin FC II and MLS NEXT Pro (MLSNP) announced today the details for the Club’s 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs Round One match. After finishing fourth in the MLSNP Western Conference, Austin FC II will face Sporting KC II at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The match will be available to watch on the Apple TV app to MLS Season Pass subscribers.
MLS NEXT Pro’s unique playoff format sees the second and third seeds in each conference select their opponents for Round One from among the teams seeded fourth through seventh. As the No. 3 seed, SKC II chose to face ATXFC II.
All matches played in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs are single-elimination matches. Contrary to the regular season, if matches are tied at full time, two 15-minute halves of extra time will be played instead of the match immediately proceeding to penalty kicks.
The winner of the Round One matchup between third-seed Sporting KC II and fourth-seed Austin FC II will advance to the Western Conference Semifinals. Colorado Rapids 2 finished the season as the one-seed in the Western Conference and will get to pick their opponent for the Semifinal round of playoffs. The highest remaining seed will host the other Western Conference Semifinal matchup on a to-be-determined date.
