The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) announced that Austin FC II midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga has been named to the Ugandan Men’s National Team roster for two (2) upcoming international matches: a friendly against Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 14 and an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria on June 18. Both matches will be played at Japoma Stadium in Douala City, Cameroon.
“I’m honored to be called up and represent my country,” said Byaruhanga. “It’s always a special feeling putting on the Uganda kit and I look forward to competing in two important matches.”
Byaruhanga, 21, has made 13 previous international appearances for Uganda, including six (6) in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He played 89 minutes in Uganda’s most recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Tanzania on March 28. He is the first Austin FC II player to have earned a senior international call-up, while 12 players on the roster have experience at the youth international level.
Byaruhanga has appeared in eight (8) contests for Austin FC II, with six (6) starts in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. He scored his first goal for the Verde & Black on April 23 against LA Galaxy II.
“We are excited to see Bobosi continue to represent Uganda, and congratulate him on earning his latest call-up,” said Interim Sporting Director Sean Rubio. “These matches will be another great opportunity for him to compete at the senior international level and we look forward to supporting him from Austin.”
