CJ Fodrey’s late goal led Austin FC II to a 1-0 away win over Houston Dynamo 2 on Thursday night at SaberCats Stadium.
The two teams were locked in a stalemate for most of the first half. Fodrey put the ball in the net from a tight angle after beating multiple Houston defenders off the dribble, but the referee adjudged that the ball had inadvertently deflected off his hand and ruled out the goal. Marcus Alstrup then made a full stretch save to keep out a Dynamo 2 free kick just before halftime.
The Verde & Black were handed a boost early in the second half, when Houston’s Exon Arzú was sent off for a second yellow card. Austin’s numerical advantage led to more possession and more chances until finally the breakthrough arrived in the 80th minute.
Jimmy Farkarlun’s cross found Fodrey at the back post, who made no mistake with his finish to put the visitors ahead. Austin then effectively limited Houston’s chances to take home all three points.
