On December 5, Austin FC and 4ATX Foundation alongside IGT hosted a Gear Giveback Event for 50 mother/daughter pairs from Con Mi MADRE, a local Austin nonprofit supporting young Latinas and their mothers.
4ATX welcomed Con MI MADRE to Q2 Stadium for a behind-the-scenes look of Austin FC’s home venue. Following the tour, the members of Con Mi MADRE attended a panel featuring three women from the Austin FC front office: Susana Wolfe, Gissela Santa Cruz, and Gwen Hernandez. The panel also included Veronica Rosas Fernandez, COO/CFO of the Hector and Gloria Lopez Foundation, Board Member of 4ATX Foundation, and former Board Member of Con Mi MADRE to discuss women empowerment and leadership in sports.
Austin FC player Diego Rubio later joined the panel to share personal reflections on how his mother and wife have been guiding forces in his life. From a young age, Rubio’s mother made a positive impact on his work ethic and perseverance to become a professional athlete.
“Through the partnership between Austin FC, 4ATX and IGT, we are proud to use the power of soccer to empower young women and their families,” said Kaitlin Mauro, 4ATX Foundation Executive Director. “It’s a privilege to share about the various career pathways in the sports industry and we hope they left feeling inspired and excited to choose leadership in their community.”
To close out the special night, the three organizations donated athletic bags filled with essentials, including headbands, lanyards, shorts, deodorant, and a $50 gift card to support their athletic needs. In addition, 4ATX & IGT honored the mother’s involvement in this journey with a special gift by Kendra Scott, acknowledging their vital role in their daughters’ development.
