Coming off its first win of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro regular season, Austin FC II returns to action against St. Louis City SC 2 at home this Friday night. Last time out, Austin FC II defeated in-state rivals Houston Dynamo 2 1-0 on the road. CJ Fodrey scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Jimmy Farkarlun. Dating back to last season, the team has now won each of its last five away games.
In 2023, ATXFC II won both its games against St. Louis without conceding, defeating City 2 2-0 at home and 1-0 in Missouri. Fodrey netted the winner in the latter while Micah Burton scored in the former.
A win on Friday night could lift the Verde & Black as high as fourth in the MLSNP Western Conference entering the weekend.
St. Louis City SC 2 Outlook
St. Louis is off to a middling start with one win, one loss, and two draws through their opening four matches. In the team’s only other away match, it earned a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City II. Johnny Klein leads the way with two goals scored, while Jayden Reid has tallied two assists.
In 2023, Austin and St. Louis finished two points apart in the standings. They picked up 22 points from 14 away games, good for fifth-best in the Western Conference.
This year, St. Louis is led by a new head coach in Bobby Murphy. Murphy joins after previous stints with Orlando City SC, Rio Grande Valley FC, and most recently as an assistant with USL League One side Union Omaha.
