Austin FC II is on the road this weekend to face Real Monarchs at America First Field in Utah. The match will kick off at 4:00 p.m. CT/3:00 p.m. MT on Sunday, June 2.
Austin FC II Outlook
ATXFC II has already picked up one win in the Rocky Mountains this season, a 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids 2 on May 3 in which Bobosi Byaruhanga and Austin FC Academy product Ervin Torres provided the goals.
Byaruhanga’s form recently earned him a call-up to the Ugandan Men’s National Team for Uganda’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers at home vs. Botswana on June 7 and Algeria on June 10. The midfielder will depart ATXFC II after the match in Utah on Sunday.
The Verde & Black will look to replicate their results against Real Monarchs in 2023, when Brett Uttley’s side defeated Monarchs 3-0 at home and earned a penalty shootout win away after a 0-0 draw.
Real Monarchs Outlook
Real Monarchs currently sit 13th in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference with a 2-1-7 record. The team’s 10 goals scored are tied for fewest in the conference.
Both of Monarchs’ wins have come at home though, where they defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 2 1-0 and Minnesota United 2 2-1. Noel Caliskan (two assists) and Damien Barker John (two goals) have been some of the team’s top performers thus far.
With the match being played at America First Field, home of Monarchs’ MLS parent club Real Salt Lake, it will be a chance for both clubs to play a match in an elevated environment.
