Match Preview Presented by Lexus: St. Louis City 2 vs. Austin FC II | May 12, 2024

Match Preview 16x9 Away 11

After defeating Rapids 2 in Colorado last Friday night, Austin FC II is on the road for a second consecutive week. The Verde & Black will travel north for a match at CITYPARK vs. St. Louis City 2 on Sunday evening. The match is set to kickoff at 6:00 p.m. CT, and will stream on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Austin FC II Outlook

ATXFC II continued its strong run of form on the road last time out, with goals from Bobosi Byaruhanga and Ervin Torres leading the team to a 2-1 win in Colorado. Torres’ match winner was the first goal of his professional career. It made the 16-year-old the fourth Austin FC Academy product to score a professional goal for an Austin FC team, following in the footsteps of Owen Wolff, Micah Burton, and Bryan Arellano.

Dating back to 2023, Austin is now unbeaten in its last seven away games. Head Coach Brett Uttley’s side picked up a 1-0 victory at CITYPARK last year, and also defeated St. Louis 2-0 in the teams’ meeting at Parmer Field, but City SC 2 triumphed 1-0 in the last encounter between the pair on April 12.

Another positive result for ATXFC II this Sunday could see the team rise as high as seventh place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference, with Austin having played between one and two games less than the teams around it.

St. Louis City 2 Outlook

St. Louis is off to a strong start in 2024, with four wins and just one defeat in their opening seven games. That record has the team in fourth place in the Western Conference.

The team’s defense has allowed only six goals, tied for second-fewest in MLSNP. Defender Jayden Reid is one of St. Louis’ top performers and has contributed two assists at the other end of the pitch as well. Brendan McSorley scored the only goal of the game when St. Louis and Austin faced off on April 12 and remains tied atop the team’s scoring charts with two.

At stake for St. Louis is a chance to go top of the Western Conference with a win (couple the favorable results for them elsewhere).
