Austin FC II played to a 3-3 draw at Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday night at University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Rapids 2 won the ensuing shootout 6-5 to garner an extra point on the night.
The Verde & Black scored three goals in the first half, with CJ Fodrey netting the first one in the sixth minute. Sébastien Pineau sent in a cross that bounced off a Rapids 2 defender and landed with Fodrey, who scored, putting Austin ahead by 1-0. Pineau then doubled the lead in the 20th minute, after Valentin Noël dribbled into the box and had his shot blocked. Pineau rebounded and scored his fourth goal of the season. Sal Mazzaferro added the third goal for Austin in the 29th minute, after Cheick Touré played a short corner to Alonso Ramírez, who passed it back to Touré. Touré's cross found Mazzaferro, who scored, putting Austin up by 3-0.
In the second half, Rapids 2 found three goals of their own, with Marlon Vargas scoring a penalty kick in the 58th minute, after Oliver Larraz got fouled in the box. In the 66th minute, Yosuke Hanya dribbled inside Austin's box and fed it back to Larraz in the middle of the box, getting Colorado's second goal of the match. Colorado then found the equalizer from an ATXFC II own goal off a corner kick.
Colorado earned an extra point on the night by winning the shootout, 6-5.
