Austin FC II earned an away point in a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC 2 on Sunday night at National Sports Center. MNUFC2 claimed the extra point on offer following a 13-round penalty shootout.
ATXFC II took a one-goal advantage into halftime thanks to a 36th-minute strike from Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez. EJ Johnson created the opportunity, smartly intercepting an attempted pass from the MNUFC2 goalkeeper and squaring it for Ocampo-Chávez to finish with a well-placed shot from the edge of the area.
After hitting the woodwork twice, Minnesota eventually equalized through Kameron Lacey, who scored from the spot in the 65th minute. Christo Vela was then unlucky to strike the post himself on a shot from close range.
When neither team able to find a winner in regulation, MNUFC2 prevailed 9-8 in a marathon penalty shootout during which ATXFC II goalkeeper Damian Las saved three (3) Minnesota attempts.
