Austin FC II earned their first road victory of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season Sunday night, defeating Timbers2 1-0 at Providence Park. The Verde & Black remain unbeaten through eight (8) matches and in second place in the MLSNP Western Conference.
ATXFC II scored their earliest goal of the season, as David Rodríguez fired in a rebound from Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez’s initial shot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 4th-minute. Ocampo-Chávez tracked down a long pass, then dribbled back and forth in the box before a Timbers2 defender blocked his effort, but Rodríguez was in the right place to net his second goal of the season. ATXFC II dominated the ball in the first half, finishing with 62 percent possession and adding four (4) shots on target.
ATXFC II saw their best chance of the second half in the 52nd-minute, as CJ Fodrey sent in a strong cross to the back post which Rodríguez headed at the Portland keeper. Goalkeeper Damian Las made a crucial save in the 87th-minute, diving to deny a T2 shot which was headed to the bottom right corner. Las’ save preserved the team’s 1-0 win, its fifth victory of the season and third clean sheet.
