Austin FC midfielder Alex Ring was named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday bench for his performance in Austin’s 2-2 away draw against New England Revolution on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. Ring earns his second Team of the Matchday selection of the 2023 season.
With Austin trailing 2-1 in the final moments of Saturday’s match, Ring picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area. After taking a touch to control, the Finnish midfielder hit a powerful half-volley which arrowed into the bottom corner to tie the score. The goal, officially recorded with 93:47 on the clock, was the latest away goal in Austin FC history. The Verde & Black are just the fourth team in MLS to get a point against the Revolution at Gillette Stadium this season.
In addition to his goal, Ring was credited with an assist on Emiliano Rigoni's 27th-minute strike. He also won five duels and both of his attempted tackles.
