U.S. Soccer announced today that Austin FC Academy midfielder Ervin Torres has been named to the U.S. U-16 Men’s Youth National Team (MYNT) roster for 2023 International Dream Cup, taking place from May 30 to June 4 in Fukushima, Japan.
The U.S. U-16 MYNT will face Japan on May 31, the Netherlands on June 1, and Nigeria on June 3.
“We’re happy for Ervin to have earned his latest youth international call-up,” said Austin FC Academy General Manager Tyson Wahl. “This tournament will no doubt be a fantastic experience for him and we’ll be cheering him on from Austin.”
Torres earns his fifth call-up to a U.S. MYNT and fourth at the U-16 level. He scored in a victory over England at the Football Federations Cup U-16 in Spain last November. At the 2022 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs last July, Torres registered multiple impressive performances for the Austin FC U-15 team, including scoring a goal in the Round of 16 against Los Angeles FC.
Torres signed an amateur agreement with Austin FC II on March 24, 2023, allowing him to compete at the MLS NEXT Pro level with the team this season. He is one (1) of four (4) players from the Austin FC organization to earn a U.S. MYNT call-up in 2023, joining Owen Wolff (U-20), Micah Burton (U-17), and Gavin Wolff (U-15).
