The Austin FC U16 and U18 teams were in action at the Generation adidas Cup over the weekend, each playing three group stage matches at the prestigious international youth tournament in Florida.
The U16 side began its tournament with two draws against Inter Miami and NYCFC, losing the penalty shootout against the former and winning it against the latter to collect three total points. The team then earned an impressive 3-1 victory over the U16s from German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart, getting one of its goals from a corner kick.
Six points were enough to finish first in Group D and set up a match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
Austin’s U18s lost a pair of close, 1-0 decisions to Charlotte FC and LA Galaxy before concluding group play with a shootout win over Independiente from Panama.
