U.S. Soccer announced this week that Austin FC Academy midfielder Ervin Torres was called up to the United States U-15 Men’s Youth National Team for the Gradisca Tournament, taking place from April 20 to May 2 in Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. The call-up is Torres’ second to a U.S. U-15 MYNT roster under new Head Coach Tom Heinemann.
“Ervin has worked hard with his teammates and our staff day in, day out, and we’re excited to see him earn this opportunity to represent his country at one of the world’s best youth soccer tournaments,” said Austin FC Academy General Manager Tyson Wahl. “We know he will represent the Club well in Europe and wish him the best of luck in this incredible experience.”
Torres, a Texas native, joins U-17 midfielder Micah Burton as the first two Austin FC Academy players to feature on competitive rosters for the U.S. youth national team. Burton recently registered a goal and an assist in U.S. U-17 friendlies against Uruguay and Argentina.
Both the Austin FC U-15 and U-17 teams are off to strong starts at the Generation adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas, as each defeated an international academy opponent last weekend. The U-15s earned a 2-0 victory over Scottish club Celtic FC on Saturday, followed by the U-17s beating Mexican side Santos Laguna 2-1 on Sunday.
