Austin FC defender Julio Cascante was named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday for his performance in Austin’s 3-0 victory over Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. Cascante earns his second consecutive Team of the Matchday selection and his third overall of the 2023 season.
After recording two (2) assists and contributing to a clean sheet in last Wednesday’s 3-0 win against FC Dallas, Cascante scored Austin’s third goal on Saturday against Houston, powering in a header from Dani Pereira’s cross. Cascante now has six (6) goal contributions in his last five (5) matches, and leads all MLS center backs in goal contributions in 2023.
At the defensive end of the pitch, he was a key part of another shutout effort on Saturday, winning four (4) duels and making four (4) clearances.
