Goals from Emiliano Rigoni and Alex Ring helped Austin FC earn a 2-2 away draw against New England Revolution on Saturday night. Ring’s equalizer in the 94th minute was the latest road goal in Club history, and ATXFC is only the fourth visiting team in MLS to pick up a point at Gillette Stadium this season.
Brad Stuver, who became the first player in Austin FC history to make 100 appearances across all competitions for the Club, made a couple of strong saves to start the match. The Verde & Black then took the lead in the 27th minute, as Rigoni finished Jon Gallagher’s cross with a first-time shot.
Austin’s advantage was short-lived though, as the Revolution equalized just a minute later through Tomás Chancalay. New England scored again in the 47th minute when Chancalay notched his second goal of the night.
The Verde & Black pushed forward in hopes of tying the match, and Sebastián Driussi nearly did so in the 59th minute. The Argentine’s dangerous free kick forced Revolution goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. to tip the ball over the bar. Dani Pereira then hit the post with a powerful strike.
On Austin’s final opportunity in the last minute of stoppage time, Nick Lima played the ball to the edge of the box. After a touch from Will Bruin, it eventually fell to Ring, whose spectacular long-range effort found the bottom corner to secure an away point for the Verde & Black.
