Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC beat St. Louis City SC last Sunday afternoon, marking the team’s third consecutive victory and third clean sheet of the season. Austin ended the first half with the lead after Myrto Uzuni finished a low cross from Osman Bukari to net his first goal for the VERDE & Black.
Austin is currently sitting in second place in the MLS Western Conference and could climb into first if they better Vancouver’s result this weekend. Austin and Portland split their last two meetings, both of which happened in Oregon. Austin beat the Timbers 1-0 last October courtesy of a Dani Pereira goal, and most recently fell against Portland on March 1 in a close and combative match.
The VERDE & Black will look to continue the momentum and extend their winning streak to four in front of their home fans.
Portland Timbers Outlook
Portland Timbers currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference with a record of 3-1-2. Most recently, they recorded their third victory of the season last Sunday evening at home over Houston.
The win was Portland’s second in-a-row. The Timbers left their mark early, with Felipe Mora finding the back of the net in the 6th minute of the match. Later in the match, Antony registered a brace following a Houston equalizer. Having also won 3-0 against Colorado Rapids on March 22, the Timbers have scored three goals in back-to-back matches. The team’s attack has been helped by offseason arrival David da Costa, who has a goal and two assists in five starts.
Over the past three seasons, Austin has not been able to beat Portland at home. The VERDE & Black will be determined to end that streak on Saturday.
