Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC had a busy offseason. Brandon Vazquez and Myrto Uzuni joined the Club as Designated Players, while Ilie Sánchez, Besard Sabovic, and Nico Dubersarsky arrived as midfield reinforcements. Vazquez already made an impact during preseason, finding the back of the net a couple of times.
The VERDE & Black will welcome visitors Sporting Kansas City this Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. Austin FC has scored more goals (17) against SKC than any other MLS opponent in its history, including three in an electric 3-2 home win last May with a brace from Jáder Obrian.
Austin FC will look to claim a home opener win to build momentum before hitting the road for the first time this season against Portland Timbers next week.
Sporting Kansas City Outlook
Sporting Kansas City missed the playoffs last season with a 13th-place finish in the Western Conference. The team is led by Head Coach Peter Vermes. Vermes is the longest-tenured active head coach in MLS, leading the SKC squad since 2009.
SKC added two Designated Players this offseason, Dejan Joveljic and Manu Garcia, marking the first time since 2018 that the team acquired two DPs in the same transfer window. Sporting made a bit of MLS history in signing Joveljic via the first cash-for-player trade in league history.
SKC played its first competitive match of the season before heading to Austin, hosting Inter Miami CF on Wednesday night in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup Round One.
