Maxi Urruti scored in the 88th minute to lift Austin FC to a 1-0 victory over CF Montréal on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Q2 Stadium.
Austin had more possession and more chances in the first half. Emiliano Rigoni came close to scoring on two occasions, and a Gyasi Zardes strike was ruled out by the offside flag. Brad Stuver made a pair of strong saves to keep Montréal off the board.
The Verde & Black continued to control the flow of the match in the second half. Urruti hit the post, and Ethan Finlay forced a save from Montréal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois. Austin eventually found a reward for all its initiative, as Urruti popped up to poke home a low cross from Jon Gallagher with two minutes left in normal time.
The shutout win earned the Club its first three points of the 2023 MLS season, with its first-ever Concacaf Champions League match coming up on Tuesday.
