Austin FC fell to a 1-0 defeat against FC Dallas on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. The match attendance of 20,738 marked Austin’s 42nd-consecutive MLS home sellout, extending the league’s longest active streak.
The Verde & Black held Dallas without a shot on target through the first 45 minutes and came close to scoring themselves on two (2) occasions. Adam Lundkvist forced a diving save from Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes in the 40th-minute, and Emiliano Rigoni headed a cross from Lundkvist over the bar in first-half stoppage time.
Austin suffered a setback in the 54th-minute, when Rodney Redes was sent off for a second yellow card offense. Despite going down to 10 men, the hosts were unlucky not have an opportunity from the penalty spot. It appeared Dani Pereira was fouled in the box after receiving a pass from Rigoni, but referee Ismail Elfath waved play on.
Austin’s resistance was then broken in the 89th-minute, with Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira getting behind the defense and scoring the game’s only goal.
