Austin FC fell to a 6-3 defeat against St. Louis City SC on Sunday night at CITYPARK.
St. Louis took the lead via a set piece in the 22nd minute. An in-swinging ball from Eduard Löwen found the head of Tim Parker, who flicked it to the far post. Nicholas Gioacchini then doubled City’s advantage moments before halftime, with Löwen once again recording the assist.
Gioacchini scored another at the start of the second half, cleaning up his own rebound after a strong initial save by Brad Stuver. Memo Rodriguez – who was making his Austin FC debut – then saw Roman Bürki improbably stop his powerful strike.
Sebastián Driussi grabbed a goal for Austin in the 61st minute, winning a foul in the area and scoring from the penalty spot.
The teams traded goals during the final half hour of play. Sam Adeniran and Tomás Ostrák netted for the hosts, while Will Bruin and Emiliano Rigoni each got on the scoresheet for Austin.
