Austin FC midfielder Owen Wolff was named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday, with defender Jon Gallagher named to the Team of the Matchday bench following Austin’s 2-1 away over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at America First Field. Wolff and Gallagher both earn their first Team of the Matchday selections of the season.
Wolff scored his first career MLS goal in the 33rd minute, and it proved to be the match-winner. Picking up the ball inside midfield, he drove forward and hit a powerful low shot with his right foot that beat RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath. The goal makes Wolff the youngest player in the league to score so far this season at 18 years and 72 days old, and he also picked up an assist for Gallagher’s goal.
Gallagher netted his second goal of 2023 with a perfectly struck shot from 25 yards, which caromed in off the underside of the crossbar to open the scoring in the 9th minute. Gallagher is one (1) of only two (2) defenders in the league to record three (3) goal contributions through the opening three (3) weeks of the season.
