U.S. Soccer announced on Friday that Austin FC Academy defender Anthony Gonzalez has been invited to the upcoming U-19 U.S. Men’s National Team training camp, taking place from July 25 to August 2 in Carson, Calif. The call-up is Gonzalez’s first involvement with a U.S. Youth National Team program.
“We’re extremely proud of Anthony, and excited for him to have this experience,” said Austin FC Academy General Manager Tyson Wahl. “It’s great to see more and more players from the Austin FC Academy being called up to represent the U.S. Youth National Teams, and these call-ups are recognition of all their hard work, as well as as our Academy’s ability to serve as a platform for top young players to develop and shine.”
At the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs this month, Gonzalez put in multiple impressive performances for the Austin FC U-17 team, including a two-goal performance in the Round of 16 against New York City FC. He is the fifth player from the Austin FC organization to earn a U.S. Youth National Team call-up in 2022, following Owen Wolff (U-19), Bryan Arellano (U-19), Micah Burton (U-17), and Ervin Torres (U-15).
