Austin FC announced today several updates to the Club’s technical and soccer operations staff ahead of the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
The Club hired Yago Aguilar Azón as Director of Domestic Scouting and Recruitment and John Turner as Director of Player Personnel. Aguilar spent last season as Assistant to the Football Director at TS Wisla Kraków SA in Poland. He holds a UEFA Pro Coaching License and has previous experience in coaching, developing academy teams, scouting, and as a technical advisor. In addition to his time in Poland, Aguilar has worked in his native Spain, Georgia, Hong Kong, and the UAE.
Turner holds a J.D. from Tulane University Law School and will support Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell in matters related to player acquisition and management, as well as roster budget and compliance.
Former Austin FC II Assistant Coach Jason Grubb, who helped guide ATXFC II to the MLS NEXT Pro title during the team’s inaugural season in 2023, has joined the Austin FC First Team coaching staff as Set Piece Coach. In his role, Grubb will be tasked with managing the teaching, planning, and execution of first team set pieces, cataloguing set pieces, and communicating strategy to Austin FC II and Austin FC Academy teams to integrate all Club programs into the team model.
The Austin FC First Team coaching staff now comprises Head Coach Josh Wolff, Assistant Coach Davy Arnaud, Assistant Coach Rodrigo Rios, Goalkeeper Coach Preston Burpo, Assistant Coach Terry Boss, and Grubb.
Prior to joining the Austin FC II coaching staff in January 2023, Grubb held roles as Goalkeeping Coach for the U-20 U.S. Men’s Youth National Team, and with Houston Dynamo FC as Head of Academy Goalkeeping and Houston Dynamo 2 Goalkeeping Coach.
Additionally, Cameron Sauro has joined the Austin FC II coaching staff as the team’s Goalkeeper Coach. Sauro arrives having spent the last three (3) seasons at Inter Miami CF, most recently serving as Lead Academy Goalkeeper Coach.
