On November 1, under the light of dusk, Austin FC celebrated Dia de los Muertos, a joyous time-honored Mexican tradition that embraces the remembrance of the lives of loved ones lost.
ATXFC, alongside members of its supporter groups, built an altar/ofrenda at Q2 Stadium’s Southwest Gate, the main supporter group entrance to the stadium. The altar was adorned by fresh, aromatic cempasúchil (marigolds), candles, papel picado and other customary items.
Participants of the evening’s celebration were encouraged to place on the altar photos of a deceased loved one and share some of their favorite memories or stories of the person.
As tradition calls, guests also placed flowers, food and memorable items (called ‘ofrendas’) that the deceased person enjoyed during their time on Earth.
Pan dulce and aguas frescas where served, while music was provided by Mariachi Voz De Pasión.
