Austin FC Comes Back to Tie 2-2 with Real Salt Lake

Match Report

Austin FC erased a two-goal deficit in the second half to tie 2-2 with Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium.

Jon Gallagher had Austin’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes, a near-post attempt that RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath saved. Julio Cascante then made an incredible last-man tackle to deny Diego Luna what looked like a certain goal for the visitors in the 37th minute.

RSL took the lead at the beginning of the second half when Matt Crooks shot home from a rebound, then doubled their advantage from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

Austin showed its character to come back in the closing minutes though. Jáder Obrian began the effort with an 82nd minute goal, his team-high seventh of the season. Guilherme Biro then scored the equalizer in the 89th minute off an excellent cross from Sebastián Driussi.

ATXFC poured forward searching for a winner in stoppage time, but the match ultimately ended in a draw.
