Austin FC captain Sebastián Driussi scored the latest goal in Club history in the 101st minute to lift Austin FC to a 4-3 win against San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. The attendance of 20,738 marked the 58th consecutive MLS home sellout for Austin, extending the league’s longest active streak.
Austin applied pressure right from the start of the match looking to open the score, but ultimately San Jose struck against the run of play first with a header by Paul Marie. Both teams then had a goal disallowed by the VAR before halftime.
San Jose doubled their lead in the 58th minute but Austin responded four (4) minutes later when Driussi converted a penalty. Jáder Obrian then buried a chance in the 63rd minute to equalize, and the Verde & Black took the lead with a rocket from the left foot of Guilherme Biro in the 67th minute. The five-minute span between Driussi’s goal and Biro’s was the fastest Austin has scored three (3) consecutive goals in Club history.
The Earthquakes hit back in the 74th minute with a third goal of their own, but in the final minute of stoppage time, Driussi secured all three points for the Verde & Black by scoring with an incredible first-time shot from the edge of the penalty area.
