Sebastián Driussi’s goal in the 87th minute lifted Austin FC to a 1-0 win over in-state rivals Houston Dynamo FC on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium. The result was Austin’s fourth consecutive home victory, its fifth clean sheet of 2024, and its second win over Houston this season. The match attendance of 20,738 marked the 60th consecutive MLS home sellout for Austin FC, extending the league’s longest active streak.
The Verde & Black hit the frame of the goal twice in the first half, as Diego Rubio hit a volley off the crossbar in the opening moments and Alex Ring’s shot bounced off the post with about 20 minutes played. At the other end of the pitch, Brad Stuver continued his strong run of form with several smart saves, most notably on Amine Bassi and Sebastian Kowalczyk.
The two sides remained locked in a stalemate throughout the second half, and just when it looked as though the match would end scoreless, Driussi appeared in the box to clean up a loose ball following a corner kick. The goal was Driussi’s team-high fourth of the season.
