Suomen Palloliitto (the Football Association of Finland) announced the 25 players called up to the Finland Men’s National Team for a pair of international friendlies in June, with Austin FC defender Leo Väisänen named in the squad.
Väisänen will join Finland for matches against Portugal on Tuesday, June 4 in Lisbon, and against Scotland on Friday, June 7 in Glasgow. He will depart Austin FC after the team’s match at Real Salt Lake on June 1, and return following Finland’s match on June 7.
Väisänen has played 26 matches for Finland to date, including seven (7) UEFA Nations League matches, six (6) FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and one (1) match at UEFA EURO 2020. Since joining Austin FC, the 26-year-old center back has made 24 appearances (21 starts) for the Verde & Black, recording one (1) goal and one (1) assist.
