Austin FC Outlook

Austin FC fell against FC Dallas 3-1 Wednesday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Gyasi Zardes scored Austin’s lone goal after Dani Pereira cleverly played him behind in the 16th minute, Zardes’ third goal in his last three matches.

The Verde & Black now shift their attention to their Eastern Conference opponents, Charlotte FC. The two have only met once previously, back on June 30th, 2022. Austin came out on top in that encounter, defeating Charlotte 1-0 thanks to an incredible strike from outside the box by Pereira.

Including that victory, Austin has a record of 10-5-2 against Eastern Conference teams since the start of 2022. ATXFC will look to take advantage of that promising trend to build momentum leading into League Cup play. Fans at Q2 Stadium might also see the debut of two of the newest members of the Verde & Black on Saturday night, as both DP winger Osman Bukari and defender Mikkel Desler are now eligible to compete.

Charlotte FC Outlook

Charlotte FC is sitting in 6th place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 10-8-6. Charlotte is also coming off an away midweek match where they faced Columbus Crew. Charlotte was able to steal a point on the road when Patrick Agyemang scored an equalizer in the 84th minute.

Agyemang has been a force to be reckoned with in 2024, recording seven goals and three assists through 22 league appearances, including four goals in his last four games. At the other end of the pitch, Charlotte has found success this season by hanging their hat on defense. The team’s 25 goals conceded are second fewest in MLS.

Charlotte has also proven to be a tricky visitor for other teams as of late, going 3-1-1 in its last five away matches. But CLTFC has yet to visit Q2 Stadium in its history, and all three points will be in the balance when they face Austin on Saturday night.
