Austin FC Outlook

Last time out, Austin FC fell 2-0 against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night away at Children’s Mercy Park.

The Verde & Black now shift their attention to their first home match of the month against New York City FC this weekend. This will be the first time the two face each other in official MLS regular season play, but Austin will hope that the match continues two promising trends. ATXFC has an all-time record of 9-5-2 against Eastern Conference teams and a 5-3-2 home record this season. Q2 Stadium’s raucous atmosphere will offer the team a critical boost after a long stretch away last month.

Austin will look to return to winning ways and capitalize on that home atmosphere as they look toward a total of five home matches including Leagues Cup this month.

New York City FC Outlook

New York City Football Club is currently sitting in 5th place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 10-2-8. Unlike Austin, NYCFC had a midweek match to navigate, defeating CF Montreal 2-0. Last weekend, four different players scored as the Boys In Blue claimed a 4-2 win over an Orlando side who was missing a few key players due to Copa America.

NYCFC was arguably the league’s hottest team throughout the spring, winning 8 out of 9 matches from April 13 to May 31. They hit a bit of a rough patch recently though, losing three straight – including both of their last two road games – before bouncing back vs. OCSC.

Designated Player Santiago Rodríguez has been one of the league’s top attacking forces this season, leading the way for New York with eight goals and seven assists. Keeping Rodríguez quiet will be a key part of the gameplan for the Verde & Black.
