Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC came back to win 2-1 against New York City Football Club last Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. The victory improves Austin to 6-3-2 at home this season, securing the win after an early deficit in the 5th minute against New York. Both goals came from Gyasi Zardes, the 104th and 105th goals of his MLS regular season career – which moved him into 10th place all time on the league’s scoring chart.
The Verde & Black now shift their attention to their second straight home match against Seattle this weekend. This last time the two met was earlier in the season on March 2nd. The game ended in a 0-0 draw away at Lumen Field, with a big effort from the entire 11 helping to keep Seattle scoreless in Washington.
Austin will look to secure another three points to continue building the momentum leading up to next week’s Copa Tejas decider and will get a boost from Dani Pereira’s return from international duty.
Seattle Sounders Outlook
Seattle is currently sitting in 7th place in the Western Conference, with a record of 8-7-7. The Sounders defeated USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC 2-1 in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday night. In their last league outing, Seattle beat New England Revolution 2-0 at home, continuing a strong run of form.
The Sounders have been one of the hottest teams in MLS since the end of April, winning three straight MLS regular season games and having lost just twice in the last 15 games across all competitions. Jordan Morris and Raul Ruidiaz are tied with eight goals atop the team’s scoring charts, while Albert Rusnak has 10 assists.
Morris’ most recent goal was his 75th across all competitions in his Sounders career. It will be up to the Verde & Black to shut down Morris and Seattle’s other dangerous attackers on Saturday night.
